Well Child Visits

Well child visits are often seen as a time for vaccinations and to discuss how much your child has grown. But these visits are also an opportunity for both parents and doctors to ask questions about your child's development, behavior, sleep, eating habits, learning abilities and social behaviors.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has developed a set of comprehensive health guidelines for well-child care. Discussions around these visits include focus on developmental milestones, nutrition, safety, your child and family's emotional well-being, and recommendations from the AAP.

  • The first week visit (3 to 5 days old)
  • 1 month old
  • 2 months old
  • 4 months old
  • 6 months old
  • 9 months old
  • 12 months old
  • 15 months old
  • 18 months old
  • 2 years old (24 months)
  • 2 ½ years old (30 months)
  • 3 years old
  • 4 years old
  • 5 years old
  • 6 years old
  • 7 years old - 21 years old

Your child may require vaccinations at some of these well child visits.  Click here to view the Center for Disease Control's (CDC) vaccination schedule.

Part of every well child visit includes age appropriate developmental screening questionnaires that helping us to better address parents’ concerns about their child’s development.  These questionnaires can be filled out ahead of your appointment by completing them on a mobile device, tablet, or computer.  You will need a CHADIS account in order to access the questionnaires.  By coming to your visit with these questionnaires already filled out, you and your provider will have more time to discuss your child's health.  Contact the office at (956) 686-6100 to set up your CHADIS account or click here.

For more on what to expect at a well child checkup and why it's important to keep up with these visits, you can download the Bright Futures handout The Well-Child Visit: Why Go and What to Expect.
