Infant Tylenol Recall

Johnson and Johnson has recalled all infant Tylenol from stores in the United States. The recall comes after complaints that the new design of the bottle was flawed. The bottle was supposed to have a protective cover to limit the amount of medicine drawn into the syringe. Instead, the protective cover was pushed into the bottle of medicine.

McAllen Pediatric Associates at Renaissance is thrilled to announce the addition of Dr. Karelys Rivera to the team. Dr. Rivera, who was previously at the Ridge Road office, will be moving to the Renaissance location starting October 1, 2011. Let’s all give a warm welcome to Dr. Rivera!

Dr. J.J. Saenz Elected by the Baylor College of Medicine Alumni Association

Dr. J.J. Saenz was elected by the Baylor College of Medicine Alumni Association Executive Committee as the 2011-2012 Alumni Association president.

Dr. Saenz completed his undergraduate studies at The University of Texas at Austin and went on to receive a bachelor of science in pharmacy. He graduated from Baylor College of Medicine in 1976 and also completed his pediatrics residency there.

Dr. Saenz is affiliated with the McAllen Pediatrics Associates and Doctors Hospital at Renaissance. He is currently the medical director for the McAllen ISD Health Program for Yearly Standing Orders, as well as a member of the quality care and peer review committee at the Doctors Hospital at Renaissance.

Dr. Saenz has served as chief of pediatrics at McAllen Medical Center Hospital, Rio Grande Regional Hospital and Doctors Hospital at Renaissance.

Congratulations to Dr. Saenz for becoming the 2011-2012 Baylor College of Medicine Alumni Association president!

The flu season is upon us and McAllen Pediatric Associates is pleased to announce that we have received our 2010-2011 vaccine shipment. Vaccine experts recommend thateveryone 6 months of age and older should get vaccinated against the flu. This year’s vaccine will help prevent against both the A and B strains, as well as the H1N1 strain from 2009. Acanthosis Nigricans – A Possible Warning Sign of Diabities in Children

Childhood diabetes has been on the rise in the United States over the last several years. Inactivity, obesity and a family history of diabetes all contribute to Type 2 Diabetes in children, especially in minorities. One possible warning sign of diabetes is acanthosis nigricans, which is a condition that results in darkening of the skin.
