MONICA DE LEON, PA-C
Monica De Leon, a certified physician assistant, graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology in May 2002. She then decided to continue her education by spending the following academic year attaining a second bachelor’s degree at The University of Texas-Pan American in Clinical Laboratory Sciences and graduated in December 2003. She was then employed by Rio Grande Regional Hospital as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist. She spent three and a half years in the laboratory field getting a hands on feel for the diagnostic portion of medicine. She then decided to take her education a step further and attained a third bachelors degree in Physician Assistant Studies from The University of Texas Pan American in May 2009. She is currently pursuing a Masters in Physician Assistant Studies from The University of Texas Pan American and will complete it in May 2010.
Monica spent some time as a student volunteer in the Emergency Room and Pharmacy of Seton Hospital in Austin during her undergraduate years at UT. She also served as a teaching assistant at UT for the UTeach Outreach program in which she created science and health related lessons and experiments for elementary students. She then volunteered on a weekly basis teaching these lessons to local Austin elementary students. She also spent her summers volunteering and shadowing in family medicine and neurology clinics in the valley.
Monica is currently certified in Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support by the American Heart Association. She is a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, Texas Academy of Physician Assistants, and the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
